Artist Bio

My first art exhibits were held in my mother’s kitchen. Her patronage was invaluable and carried me through to my art studies at Brooklyn College, N.Y.C. I obtained my B.A. fine arts in 1966 and a M.A. Art Ed. in 1969. The Brooklyn College art instructors significantly influenced my love of color, form, and design. However, my love of sharing art brought me to teaching at the middle school level. Later, after raising my children, I continued to teach art in Florida for ten years. These art students were my greatest teachers. Many of my Florida students were new to our country, and often shared their own cultural artistic experiences. The discovery of Chinese Zhe Zhi modular paper folding was such a cultural experience taught to me by one of my art students. Working in this unique paper medium allows me to create my own geometric beauty and give a singular voice to the unity of many.

I am a member and VP of  WITVA (Women in the Visual Arts). After I was selected to exhibit my unique paper medium at The Rosen Gallery “International Biennial Exhibit”, Boca Raton, Florida in 2008 Helene Yentis, Gallery Director at that time, suggested WITVA would be a perfect professional association. As a former art teacher, I also felt the  Spring Celebration of High School Art awards program, and the Women’s College Graduate  Art Scholarships, both supported by WITVA, would be wonderful community efforts worthy of my love of art.

As a professional artist, nothing can compare to being a member of The Boca Raton Museum of Art Artists Guild. We are located at the Artists’ Guild Gallery, 512 Atlantic Ave, Delray Beach, Florida. It is my honor to be a Juried Signature Member of this distinguished group of artists. Each show is separately juried, even though we are already juried members. The requirements are high and reflect well upon the Boca Raton Museum of Art standards.

I constantly look forward to learning more from other sculptors. And, as a result, I am a member of The International Sculpture Center.  It is a wonderful source of ideas and current events within the sculptors’ world.

My artistic life revolves around the preparation I received as a student, the ability to remain open to new ideas and continue to learn, and the value of sharing that life and knowledge with the rest of the world.
